Lyophilization: why peptides ship as a dry powder

Lyophilization, or freeze-drying, removes water from a frozen sample under vacuum so a dry solid remains.

The process can change how a material is packaged and handled, but the word lyophilized does not establish a storage temperature, transit tolerance, or shelf life.
